September 11-15

Here is the weekly update for your child's language arts class for next week.

All 7th grade classes will be taking the ITBS Monday- Thursday, and will be on an altered schedule. Following testing, they will alternate between two core classes per day. The normal schedule will resume on Friday Sept. 15.

Monday & Tuesday- We are continuing our analysis of the poems "The Road not Taken" by Robert Frost and "Choices" by Nikki Giovanni. All students will continue learning how to use proofreading marks to edit and correct their writing. Students will also be examining the use of figurative language in writing and its effect on meaning and analysis.

Wednesday & Thursday: Students will learn annotating marks and will learn how to use them to mark the text to aid in comprehension and understanding. We will read "The Scholarship Jacket" by Marta Salinas. On level students will answer text-dependent questions while AC students will create their own questions using Bloom's Taxonomy and will quiz their peers in groups using their own created questions.

Friday is independent reading day and all students are expected to bring a book to class.
