Week of April 23-27

This week we will be starting our final unit in SpringBoard and reading the novel "Tangerine" by Edward Bloor and completing the unit guide.

Homework is due Thursday and you will have a quiz on Friday.

Terms and Definitions

apparition: a ghost or ghostlike image of a person

composed: having one's feelings and expression under control; calm

contraption: a machine or device that appears strange or unnecessarily complicated, and often badly made or unsafe

deteriorate: become progressively worse

din: a loud, unpleasant, and prolonged noise

disintegrating: breaking up into small parts, typically as the result of impact or decay

focal point: the center of interest or activity

fumigate: apply the fumes of certain chemicals to (an area) to disinfect it or to rid it of vermin

gesture: a movement of part of the body, especially a hand or the head, to express an idea or meaning

glumly: a depressed, spiritless condition or manner, usually temporary rather than habitual

horticulture: the art or practice of garden cultivation and management

insight:a deep understanding of a person or thing

interject: say (something) abruptly, especially as an aside or interruption

lignite: a soft brownish substance similar to coal

momentum: the quantity of motion of a moving body
